Abstract

Decay widths and relative intensities of the alpha spectra of some rare-earth and heavy nuclei are calculated, taking the barrier, as in the previous treatments, to be the usual Coulomb potential superposed by a nonlocal alpha–nucleus potential with an exchange term. For the static part of the barrier, different forms of optical potentials are now used, and calculated relative intensities are in good agreement with the observed values. It is found that the exchange term is important in the odd-parity transitions, and the different optical potentials are equivalent for the cases considered.
