Abstract

An all-optical full-adder is proposed based on cascaded second-order nonlinearities of sum-frequency generation and difference-frequency generation in quasi-phase-matched periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguides. By utilizing the logic functions of PPLN waveguides, a configuration based on cascaded PPLN waveguides is designed to achieve the all-optical full-adder. The waveforms, eye diagrams, extinction ratio, pulse width, and peak power delay of the signals in the all-optical full-adder are calculated and discussed numerically. The results demonstrate that the logic function of full-adder can be achieved well by this configuration, which has important significance for all-optical digital signal processing.
