Abstract

It's not complicated. The paramedics do all the work, literally and emotionally. We pick up the phone in the midst of the contained rhythmic chaos of the emergency department, when somehow the characteristic ring of the EMS phone distinguishes itself to those listening for it, above the fray of monitor alarms, screams of agitated patients, murmurs of residents calling reports to the hospitalists.
