Abstract

The authors report the first demonstration of all-optical time division multiplexing (TDM) to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) conversion based on four-wave mixing in semiconductor optical amplifier. A 700 Mbit/s TDM bit stream at one wavelength has been converted to two 350 Mbit/s WDM bit streams at two wavelengths spaced by 4 nm. Observed bit error rates are less than 10/sup -9/. >
