Abstract

Holstiine, holstiline and rindline are shown to be derivatives of O-demethyltsilanine ( 3a), an alkaloid with a cyclic glyoxylamide acetal structure which has been isolated from the same plant Strychnos henningsii. Holstiine is reformulated as O-demethyl- N-methyl- sec-pseudotsilanine ( 5a). Holstiline is considered to be N-methyl- sec-pseudotsilanine ( 5b). The structure of rindline is revised to that of 10-methoxy- N-methyl- sec-pseudotsilanine ( 5c).
