Abstract

In hydrogen energy system, hydrogen storage alloy e.g. LaNi5 is expected as one of important materials for energy storage and transportation. However, they weigh so much for sufficient amount of hydrogen, therefore, alloys with much higher storage capacity are required. From this point of view, we have prepared the alkaline metal hydrogen storage alloys using mechanical alloying (MA) and investigated their reaction characteristics. In this study the maximum hydrogen concentration of 1.88wt% at 60 min of MA was obtained, which corresponded to the mass of 70% of LaNi5 for the same amount of hydrogen.
