Abstract

Experience in the school and in life indicates that any number of tasks involve determining an unknown quantity, from a given data set. We find the roots of an equation from the coefficients that are provided to us, plot a satellite's orbit from its launch conditions, and obtain summary statistical data from questionnaires collected during a population census. Gorbachev made a particular point of emphasizing that microelectronics, computer technology and manufacture, and the entire information science industry are catalysts of progress. Accelerated development is definitely in order here. Much depends not only upon increased computer production but also upon skilled computer use, which is why the study of basic information science and computer technology is a task of major, nationwide importance.
