Abstract

Post-compression rate-distortion optimization (PCRD-opt) algorithm in JPEG2000 needs to calculate rate-distortion slope of every truncation point, and increases the cost of computation and storage as well. A new algorithm is proposed for JPEG2000 rate control, which truncates the code stream by the number of coding passes and needn't to calculate rate-distortion slope. Compared with the standard post-compression rate-distortion optimization algorithm, experimental results show that the proposed algorithm reduces the total encoding time with negligible loss in power signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR).
