Abstract

The study was conducted as age estimation of living is most important issue to the court and to common citizen as well. Community relies on medico-legal expert for justice. The present study was conducted among 100 cases with an objective of estimating age by CT Scan of the skull radiologically and to see the closure of sutures in the Department of Forensic Medicine, MMIMSR, Mullana. So there are 100 patients and it's clearly seen that more predominant age group for CT-Scan is above the age of 60 years. As the age advances the closure of suture also increase its percentage. Males studied are 60 in number and the females studied are 40 in number. In 45–50 years of age Lambdoid, Parieto mastoid and Squamous sutures closes completely in 50%, 22.2%, 44.4% of cases respectively. In 51–55 years of age Lambdoid, Parieto mastoid and Squamous sutures close completely in 70%, 65%, 45% of cases respectively. In 56–60 years of age Lambdoid, Parieto mastoid and Squamous sutures closes completely in 72.2%, 61.1%, 66.7% of cases respectively. In 61–65 years of age Lambdoid, Parieto mastoid and Squamous sutures closes completely in75%, 85%, 90% of cases respectively. In 66–70 years of age Lambdoid, Parieto mastoid and Squamous sutures closes completely in75.8% 87.5%, 91.7% of cases respectively. Arcus senelis is present between the age of 60–70 years. Wrinkles on the face starts appearing at the age above 50 years and is present between the age of 55–70 years. Hair in auditary meatus is applicable only on cases of male and is present maximum in 75% of cases between the age of 65–70 years. Presbycusis is present between the age of 65–70 years. So all the above findings are necessary for the estimation of age. When the dispute is in the age of 60 years and 70 years the most reliable indicator is squamous suture closure and the least reliable is lambdoid suture.
