Abstract

Age changes in dental arch shape were assessed by computing the area of the arch and the arch index:Five-hundred and twenty sets of maxillary and mandibular casts were measured. They were taken from British patients within the age range of 3 to 15 years. The results showed that the dental arch areas increased maximally between S to 7 and 11 to 13 years. From examination of the indexes, however, the arches appeared to become broader with advancing age.
