Abstract

1. 1. The aerobic capacity of Xenopus laevis during sustained activity was 0.64ml O 2 g −1 hr −1 at 18°C. 2. 2. Neither the type of activity (swimming or righting response) used to elicit activity or the length of the activity bout (3 or 30 min) had any significant effect on V O 2 during activity. 3. 3. The pulmonary contribution to the increase in oxygen consumption during activity was much greater than that of the cutaneous surface. 4. 4. The data indicate that Xenopus derives 80% of its energy for sustained activity from aerobic sources.
