Abstract

Researchers have long searched for an effective surgical therapy for impotence throughout recorded history. Early attempts at surgical therapy involved various rigid devices to supplement the natural erection process. Medicine has since turned to prosthetic implants. The designs of penile prostheses have advanced, and now more complications occur because of physician error than implant failure. Inflatable penile prostheses now have the highest patient satisfaction rates and the lowest mechanical revision rates of any medically implanted device.
