Abstract

This paper reviews recent progress in the development of continuous wave, single mode coherentradiation sources intended for use in laser cooling and manipulation of atoms and ions. With the advent of new laser diode technologies, currently efforts are being given to replace such conventional laser system by its solidstate counterpart over a broad wavelength region up to UV and deep UV. Here all solid-state laser system emitting radiation at 214.5 nm and 202 nm, which we have recently developed, is also described.
