Abstract

Student groups on several campuses have procured student evalua tions of instructors and made these results available to other students for a fee. The charge against student ratings of this sort is that they are not carefully obtained and in too many instances reflect an inaccurate appraisal. However, student evaluation of teaching, properly obtained, has been found to be positively cor related with other criteria of effective teaching and may be con sidered a useful device for teacher self-improvement. This article reports data obtained when the writer administered student evalua tion rating forms to adult students in graduate classes. Attention is called to variability in student response, as well as suggested in terpretations of the information obtained. A copy of the evalua tion form is appended.
