Abstract

The surface charge and the adsorption of background electrolyte ions at the rutile/water interface has been studied. On the basis of the potentiometric titration data the surface reaction equilibrium constants were calculated according to the site binding theory of the electric double layer (EDL). An attempt of estimation of surface potential at the TiO 2/electrolyte interface is presented in this paper taking into consideration the surface charge data and the site binding model of the EDL. Comparison between concentration of surface species calculated on the basis of the site binding model of the EDL and the adsorption of electrolyte ions is made.
