Abstract

The adsorption of pyridine at an Ag (311) single-crystal electrode has been studied. The single-crystal face was grown, oriented and cut according to new techniques described in detail in the Appendix. The study of pyridine adsorption was carried out in a 50 mM KClO 4 solution for concentrations of pyridine ranging from 1.5 to 25.5 mM. In the range of potentials explored, adsorption and maximum coverage of the silver surface were observed. At potentials close to the potential of zero charge, the pyridine molecules assume a vertical orientation with the nitrogen atom facing the metal. The adsorption isotherms were determined. The present results are compared with those obtained at an Ag (110) electrode (A. Hamelin, S. Morin, J. Richer and J. Lipkowski, J. Electroanal. Chem., 272 (1989) 241).
