Abstract

1521 The purpose of this study was to examine activity of adenylate cyclase (AC) and its cAMP-dependent phosphorylation by protein kinase (PK) in the plasma membrane of myometrium of female rabbits. AC activity was measured using the technique of Boulet and Fortier (1988) and cAMP-dependent phosphorylation of membrane proteins by the technique of Kursky et al (1985). Isoproterenol (IP) increased activity of AC of plasma membranes of myometrium of non-pregnant rabbits by 51%. However, during pregnancy AC of plasma membranes of myometrium did not respond to IP. Phosphorylation of the membrane of the myometrium by PK was followed by decreased response of AC to IP.
