Abstract

1. 1. The molecular form pattern of adenosine deaminase (adenosine aminohydrolyase, EC 3.5.4.4), has been characterized in eight rat tissues. 2. 2. In all the tissues only the C form of the enzyme was found. 3. 3. The effect of partial hepatectomy on this enzyme was examined with tissues from partially hepatectomized and normal rats by comparing the specific activity levels, profiles from gel filtration, electrophoresis and thin-layer isoelectric focusing studies. 4. 4. The specific activity level of adenosine deaminase was elevated in the liver, the intestine and the spleen, while no significant change was observed in the other tissues. 5. 5. Two isozymes with isoeleetric point values (pI) of 4.80 and 4.95 were identified in tissues of normal and partially hepatectomized rats.
