Abstract

IntroductionThe Sexual Opinion Survey analyzes erotophilia-erotophobia or learned attitude dimension regarding sexual stimuli. This test has a bias due to the sexual orientation. ObjectiveThe aim of this study is to modify the test by correcting this bias. Furthermore, it studies the influence of sex, sexual orientation, living as a couple and political orientation about this dimension. Material and methodTwenty three evaluators from different sexual orientations determined the changes made on the items from the original test. This resulted in the Revised Sexual Opinion Survey (R-SOS). The sample was carried out by cluster and snowball. This resulted in a sample of 313 adults living in Andalucía. The contrast of this hypothesis was performed using the Mann-Whitney's and Kruskal-Wallis tests. ResultsR-SOS items showed a correct total-item correlation (>0.30) except for item 12. Item 12 was reviewed, and it was decided to maintain the original item. Likewise, Cronbach's alpha rate indicated high internal consistency of the test (0.851). Besides, a higher degree of erotophilia according to gender (men > women), sexual orientation (bisexual > homosexual > heterosexual) and the political orientation (left wing > center > right wing) was confirmed. There were no significant differences between persons who were single or had a partner. ConclusionsR-SOS has adequate parameters to be used in the medical area and research. One of its advantages is that it is applicable to a greater range of population as it takes sexual orientation into account. On the other hand, it has been confirmed that some sociodemographic variations affect how people respond to sexual stimuli. That fact shows us that it is necessary to go more deeply into this investigation in order to have a greater understanding of human sexuality.
