Abstract

Operative intervention for pediatric scaphoid fractures has been limited to the treatment of established nonunions.‘-’ A case of an acute pediatric scaphoid fracture treated with open reduction and internal fixation using a Herbert screw is described. The decision,to operate acutely on this scaphoid fracture was based on the concern that the degree of displacement and malalignment of the fracture would lead to nonunion or malunion.
