Abstract

The current international situation pushes the study of the Soviet experience of maintaining discipline in the armed forces. Unfortunately, the study of these problems is not a popular area of modern research. The article allowed to identify the main features of the legal regulation of the activities of the bodies of inquiry in the 1930s. It was established that it was characterized by departmental nature and led to the substitution of the norms of the existing legislation. The activity of the bodies of inquiry in the 1930s was characterized by a consistently low level. Often more than half of the inquiries were terminated. Some improvement of formal indicators was noted at the turn of 1930s–1940s.
