Abstract
Shin Kobe railway station on the Sanyo Shinkan Sen (New Sanyo Line) is situated at the south piedmont of the Mt. Rokko and underlied by active fault named Suwayama fault. Then the elevated railway structures are underlied three different beds such as granite rock, fault clay and alluvial sand and gravels. So, the special considerations were carried out for the design of the structures with regard to the effects of differential movements of the ground due to active faulting, uneven subgrade reaction under the basement structures, and heaving pressure due to swelling of the fault clay.
