Abstract

Abstact This paper proposes a companding filtered-x least mean square (FxLMSC) algorithm for impulsive noise control. The developed FxLMSC algorithm is based on minimizing the instantaneous power of the transformed error signals using a companding function. The filter coefficients are updated using a gradient weighting function, which can be controlled by the companding parameter to adapt the characteristics of impulsive noise. Computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves improved control performance over the conventional algorithms.
