Abstract
The removal of Mn(II) ions in groundwater have been carried out by various methods. One of the most effective and efficient methods is the adsorption method. This study aims to reduce the levels of manganese in groundwater based on the column system adsorption method as an absorbent material from peanut shells. A fixed variable is adsorbent 50 g, a particle size of 40 mesh and adsorbed volume 10 liters,a flow rate of 4 liters / minute. Independence are variables consist of time-varying adsorption 0; 5; 10; 15; 20; 30; 60; 90; 120; 150; 180; 210; 240 minutes and adsorbent treatment type: without activation, activation physical and chemical activation (H2SO4 1N and NaOH 1N). The results showed that manganese metal removal was influenced by contact time and type of activation. The results of removal of adsorbents activated by H2SO4 with removal efficiency 61.04%, by NaOH: 50.24%, by physical activation: 33.04% and without activation: 15.64%.
