Abstract

THE differential sensitivity of certain chromosomic zones to ionizing radiations is a problem of theoretical and practical importance. Muller1 and Kaufmann2 reported a higher sensitivity to X-rays for heterochromatin X of salivary gland chromosomes of Drosophila melanogaster than for euchromatin. Such problems are more difficult to investigate in plants. Nevertheless, recent investigations of Camara, Wagner and Garde3 on autosomes in Triticum indicate the existence of heterochromatic zones of higher susceptibility to X-rays.
