Abstract

Background Synovial cysts (or ganglions) are benign cystic tumors associated with a joint or tendon sheat, commonly located at wrist or ankle. There are some unusual locations as the acromioclavicular joint, frequently associated with chronic degenerative arthropathy of shoulder. Patient and methods We report a case of a 66-year-old woman with a acromioclavicular joint cyst presenting as a right supraclavicular mass. Ultrasound was the first technique used for the diagnosis. We also report the clinical symptoms, diagnosis and therapeutic approach. Results Ultrasound showed a cystic supraclavicular mass, well-delimitated, adjacent to the acromioclavicular joint. There was a full-thickness rotator cuff tear associated. Discussion Synovial cysts in the acromioclavicular joint appear in old patients. They tend to be painless or limit joint movements. They seem to be associated with degenerative pathology of the acromioclavicular joint and rotator cuff pathology. Treatment usually is conservative.
