Abstract
This paper describes audio demonstrations and experiments that I use in my university level, general education mathematics course “Sounding Number: Music and Mathematics from Ancient to Modern Times.” These particular experiments illustrate frequency, timbre, pitch, beats, spectra, dissonance, tuning, and scale construction, which are a subset of the topics covered in the class. They can be performed with the free, open-source audio editor and recorder Audacity®.
