Abstract

Evaluation of fractal dimensions of crack surfaces in materials has now become essential in order to correlate the properties of the micro structure responsible for the evolution of the crack. A model has been developed which estimates the Hurst exponent (the parameter characterizing the fractal nature) of the crack surface from the observed scattered intensity of a quasi-monochromatic acoustic pulse incident on it.
