Abstract
The replacement of nitro-ligand from the series of complexes, cis or trans [PtA 2(NO 2) 2] (where A = pyridine, NH 3 or PEt 3) in acetic acid solutions, has been studied. The results are compared with those previously reported for aqueous solutions. Added water retards the reactions. The mechanism suggested is one involving the loss of nitrosonium ion from the protonated species. Attempts to observe a species containing a platinum-proton linkage were unsuccessful.
