Abstract

Acid amyloglucosidase activity in human fetal liver was found to display latency. Increase of ‘free’ enzyme activity was elicited in vitro by lowering of homogenate osmolarity or addition of detergent. A moderate but highly significant rise in the ‘free’ enzyme activity of the liver was found after in vivo exposition to 10 min of asphyxia. It is suggested that the increase of hepatic ‘free’ acid amyloglucosidase activity during acute asphyxia might be of significant relevance for the knowledge of the mechanisms behind the accompanying rise of plasma glucose and hepatic glucose production.
