Abstract

Reduced-state sequence estimators for coherent reception of continuous-phase modulation have been proposed previously, and have been expected to perform well. It is shown in this letter, however, that in the practical situation where adjacent channel signals are present, the performance can be seriously degraded compared to Viterbi decoding on the full trellis.
