Abstract

ABSTRACT Adults of Acherontacarus smokyensis n. sp. are described from interstitial water in rocky riffles of the Little Pigeon River, Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the southern Appalachian Mountains of the USA. This is the first species of the genus Acherontacarus and the family Acherontacaridae to be described from North America.
