Abstract

A new model for the power consumption of RF power amplifiers (PAs) in terms of the input power based on Lambert W-function is presented. In the derivation of the model, the knee voltage effect of the field effect transistors is taken into account. Accordingly, the model can capture the behaviour of the PA power consumption in saturation. The proposed model can be used for energy efficient resource allocation of the wireless systems considering the consumed power by the PAs.
