Abstract

AbstractDue to recent research and relaxed regulations, ultra wideband (UWB) wireless systems have come into practical use. UWB uses a wide bandwidth of several gigahertz and ultra‐short period pulses. Therefore, the position resolution is superior. If pulse locking exists between the transmitter and the receiver, the pulse locking point is shifted if the distance between the transmitter and the received is varied. This shift is corrected by DLL. By measuring this correction, relative position detection is possible. This paper studies the characteristics obtained when using a delay‐lock loop (DLL) for pulse locking, which is important for relative position detection. In particular, it focuses on an environment in which local timing jitter exists. The template waveform on the receiving side and the existence or nonexistence of the loop filter and data modulation are also studied in order to improve the characteristics of the entire system. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
