Abstract

In this chapter we will look at how elements in the presentation or Web tier can access EJBs in the business tier. This is a common requirement and is therefore worthy of consideration in its own chapter. We shall look at why such an architecture is desirable. We will then consider the features in the J2EE specification that bridge the gap between the presentation tier and the EJB tier. After this we will consider issues associated with holding references to EJBs in servlets and JSPs. We will conclude by examining a simple servlet-EJB application.
