Abstract

In the present paper, the effects of several environmental parameters such as ice and low pressure on the electrical performance of short high voltage insulators were investigated. The arc characteristics and the relationship between the critical flashover voltage of the insulators and ice amount, pollution severity and air pressure were determined. The results obtained are helpful for the insulation design of transmission lines located at high altitudes.
