Abstract

The CIDNP field-dependence curves for methyl cyclohexanones show absorption due to T +-S mixing at low fields and emission due to T --S mixing at high fields. This is consistent with both triplet and singlet ground status on the biradical potential surface, which implies regions of S-T intersection. Additional data imply that intersystem crossing in the biradical is to some extent involved in determining the product ratio.
