Abstract

The luminescence of localized excitons at I-- or Br--ions diluted in CdBr2 or CdCl2 single crystals was studied in the temperature range from 4.2 to 300 K. It was found from the observed temperature dependence of half-widths and intensities of emission bands that optical processes in absorption and emission and their thermal behaviors are successfully described by the Franck-Condon model assuming a strong linear coupling of a harmonic oscillator to the electronic transitions.
