Abstract

Plain chest films and pulmonary scan findings were studied in 30 cases of pulmonary embolism with infarction or hemorrhage. The main observation of diagnostic importance, seen in 29 cases, was the absence of an air bronchogram within the pulmonary consolidation caused by the embolus. The possible mechanisms in the production of abnormal roentgen findings in this disease are discussed.
