Abstract

I am proud to publish a memoir written by such an intelligent, dignified, and warm-hearted child neurologist who is still our active leader in the field of child neurology. Dr. Isabelle Rapin, a professor of neurology and pediatric neurology, is Attending Neurologist and Child Neurologist at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECM), Bronx, New York, and its affiliated hospitals. After receiving a degree in medicine from the University of Lausanne Medical School, in Lausanne, Switzerland, she completed a pediatric internship at the New York University-Bellevue Medical Center and a neurology residency and pediatric neurology fellowship at the Neurological Institute of Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center (CPMC), New York City. At Einstein, she founded and served for many years as director of the Child Neurology Service and Fellowship Training Program. Throughout her career she has specialized in the study of neurogenetic disorders in children, focusing especially on language communication disorders and autism. A native of Switzerland, Dr. Rapin joined the Einstein faculty in 1958, shortly after the College of Medicine there was founded. She had just completed her residency and fellowship at the CPMC, as well as her internship in pediatrics at the Bellevue Medical Center. Dr. Rapin is widely published and has authored more than 200 papers and selected chapters of various medical books. She has been invited to lecture at medical institutions throughout the world and has served on the boards
