Abstract

The issue of providing the Russian market with high-quality radiation-resistant optical cables and own-made fibers arose, due to the total import substitution. Until recently, Russian optical cables, resistant to ionizing radiation, were based solely on imported optical fiber, but the long-term experience of Russian scientists, obtained during research and development work on the manufacture of laboratory samples and conducting relevant experiments, made it possible to master the mass production of specialized optical fibers, in their characteristics are not inferior to foreign analogues. When conducting one of such works, during tests of optical fiber, the dependences of radiation induced attenuation on the intensity of irradiation were found, which have not been mentioned in the literature before. For cable sheaths made on the basis of the developed fibers, materials were chosen as the experiment subjected to static gamma radiation, and which showed their suitability for operation under conditions of exposure to ionizing radiation.
