Abstract

Soft tissue masses of the abdominal wall may arise from different etiologies. Among the benign lesions, desmoid tumors count up for almost one third of tumors localized in the abdominal region. Commonly they are resected through a direct approach, often leaving an unpleasant and stigmatizing scar. The abdominoplasty access route for desmoid tumor resection is described as a means to achieve aesthetically pleasing results and to provide good overview for radical tumor resection and the reconstruction of the abdominal wall. It yielded unparalleled cosmetic outcomes in our hands and minimal donor site morbidity achieved by a single-stage procedure while simultaneously respecting the standards of surgical oncology.
