Abstract
Dr Goldberg, the editor and a major contributor to this book, has drawn on the expertise of ten other physicians to coauthor the volume. It is designed as a reference for those currently active in ultrasound, a guide for students of this modality, and an aid for those in other disciplines who order ultrasound examinations. The initial sections on physics and instrumentation presume a familiarity with the basics of ultrasound and deal directly with the why and how of gray-scale ultrasonography. This is explained succinctly yet with sufficient detail to allow the reader to realize the full potential of the technology. Other chapters are variously organized by organs, structures, and regions. Thus, the overlap of authors affords the reader multiple viewpoints of any given topic; eg, hepatic disease is discussed in chapters on normal and abnormal vessels, cysts and abscesses, the biliary tree, and the liver.
