Abstract

The present work reports one two-dimensional coordination polymer material comprising pendent Lewis basic pyridyl sites, [Zn(L)(bpe)2]n (H2L = 5-dimethylamino-isophthalic acid, bpe = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene). The material is synthesized with high yield and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV–Vis, TGA, PXRD and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The compound emits yellow luminescence in the solid state, which could be attributed to ligand-based emission. The compound with pendent pyridyl groups on the surface can act as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the Knoevenagel reaction. Moreover, the catalyst could be recovered and reused up to three times in further reactions without significant loss in the yields.
