Abstract

This paper proposes a universal adaptive fuzzy logic controller design procedure. This procedure provides explicit adaptation mechanism to tune and update the global input and output ranges of the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) as well as implicitly influences the rule base and the membership functions of the FLC. The adaptation is based on new concepts in evaluating the FLC performance according to some performance monitors taken from the operational environment. The proposed algorithm is tested in the design of an excitation system for a synchronous power generator in which it proved superiority when compared to a conventional excitation system.
