Abstract
We consider tandem queues with failures and a buffer of finite capacity at each service station. The service and repair time distributions of each server is of the phase type. A unified method for approximating the system under three types of service-failure interactions is presented. The approximation is based on the decomposition method. Some numerical examples are presented to investigate the effectiveness of the approximation and the effects of the system characteristics, such as failure rates, service time, repair time and service-failure interactions.
