Abstract

A SIW 2D multibeam antenna based on the multimode BFN scheme are modeled, designed and demonstrated on a low-cost two-layer substrate platform. SIW technology overcomes the drawbacks of the traditional planar BFNs in millimeter-wave frequency band, such as considerable loss and parasitic couplings etc. In addition, this multibeam antenna effectively avoids the use of connectors and cables within the structure. If higher gain beams or better far-field patterns need to be synthesized, the proposed 2D BFN can be applied to feed additional antenna array through coaxial cables. The measured results have clearly demonstrated that this type of SIW multibeam antenna represents a good candidate in the development of millimeter-wave communication and sensor systems.
