Abstract

In this letter, a novel optical power splitter for multi-core fibers (MCFs) is proposed. The splitter is based on the multimode interference effect inside ring core fibers and can realize arbitrary ratio power splitting by tuning the phase shifter array between two ring core fibers. A detailed algorithm is designed to find the optimal phase shift for these phase shifters. Numerical simulations are used to demonstrate that the device can achieve arbitrary splitting ratios. The proposed device is expected to provide great flexibility for the MCF-based optical networks.
