Abstract

In this work, the design of non-periodic multiple types of units makes wideband random phase gradients form on a designed metasurface. Because these random phase gradients, the incidence waves are diffused, which results in RCS reduction. Importantly, under both linearly polarized (LP) and circularly polarized (CP) incident waves, these random phase gradients are always available on the metasurface, and they are not sensitive to the polarization state for either CP waves or LP waves. When the incident angle of LP and CP waves is increased, these random phase gradients are also available on the metasurface. Therefore, a true polarization-independence metasurface is realized for wideband and wide-angle RCS reduction. For both LP and CP incident wave, -10 dB RCS reduction bands are from 13.5GHz to 22 GHz. Simulation and experiment results all show this proposed metasurface has potential application for stealth technology.
