Abstract

Although midwives are the lead professionals for uncomplicated pregnancies and coordinators of maternity care in the United Kingdom (UK),1 they are not the default healthcare provider for women and birthing people in many areas of the United States (US).In this article, Victoria Pollack explores how midwifery in the US is thriving despite several challenges, some of which are unique to the US, and others that mirror challenges experienced in the UK.
